Teletowns: telematics and urban regeneration

The contribution that telematics can make to urban regeneration is already receiving attention in the world of policy action.

The academic literature on the topic is relatively scant at the present although new approaches are beginning to surface in the journals. Urban Studies will this September publish a special issue entitled: Intelligent Urban Development - the emergence of wired government and administration. This special issue, edited by Len Holmes of the University of North London, Stephen Little of the Open University and Margaret Grieco, Napier University, opens up a wide ranging discussion of regeneration issues in the context of new information technology.

The purpose of this page is to provide access to current and topical developments in the area of telematics and urban regeneration. The page provides materials on locations where actions are already being taken by policy makers and citizenry designed to harness the benefits of new information technologies in the regeneration of districts and areas which have traditionally been excluded.
